Below-Grade Drainage

MiraDRAIN Drainage Composite

Multi-directional dimple-board drainage mats that channel water, relieve hydrostatic pressure, and protect waterproofing on foundation walls, retaining walls, plaza decks, and green roofs.

MiraDRAIN by Carlisle (CCW) is a prefabricated drainage composite: a molded dimpled core laminated to a filter fabric that gives water a continuous path to the perimeter drain while keeping soil out of the flow channels. Used on foundation walls, trench drains, retaining walls, and plaza decks, it replaces heavy aggregate drainage with a lightweight roll — and every item ships free.

What It Is

Why Choose Aggregate-Free MiraDRAIN

Good drainage is essential to any waterproofing system, yet it's often overlooked. Without it, groundwater seeps in, builds hydrostatic pressure, and causes leakage and structural damage. MiraDRAIN gives water a clear channel to move, relieves that pressure, and protects the waterproofing — replacing heavy aggregate systems with a lightweight roll that cuts shipping weight and cost.

Standard aggregate drainage is costly and slow to install, and often forces designers to compromise. MiraDRAIN's prefabricated dimple-board approach removes that compromise: one installer can carry a 200 sq. ft. roll — the equivalent of a small dump truck of aggregate — for faster, lower-labor installation, and you can backfill with the excavated soil.

MiraDRAIN Series at a Glance

Every MiraDRAIN series pairs a molded drainage core with a bonded filter fabric; they differ in core material, flow, and orientation. Match the series to your application, or use the Application Guide above.

How It Works

A Prefabricated Drainage Composite

Introduced in 1983, MiraDRAIN brought cost-efficient, high-capacity prefabricated drainage to the building industry. Each panel is a molded three-dimensional dimpled core laminated to a filter fabric or geotextile that stops soil particles from entering the flow channels.

The bonded core-and-fabric design keeps backfill from pushing fabric into the channels, so the aggregate-free system delivers flow capacity 3 to 5 times greater than standard aggregate. Water passes through the fabric into the drainage core, where gravity carries it down to the foundation drain. The fabric faces the soil while the flat back of the core sits against the wall, giving maximum effectiveness across a wide range of waterproofing systems — with over half a billion square feet installed worldwide without a failure.

Features & Benefits

Why MiraDRAIN Performs

3–5× the flow

High-flow drainage 3 to 5 times more effective than aggregate or sand.

No-clog filter fabric

Bonded filter fabrics keep soil out of the flow channels without clogging.

Relieves pressure

Reduces hydrostatic pressure buildup against below-grade structures.

Protects waterproofing

Acts as a protection course, channeling water away from the membrane.

Lightweight rolls

One installer carries a 200 sq. ft. roll; backfill with the excavated soil.

Proven long-term

High-strength core withstands installation and earth stresses for decades.

Questions

MiraDRAIN FAQ

Which MiraDRAIN series do I need?

It depends on orientation, flow, and load. Vertical foundation walls typically use the 2000 (medium flow) or 6000/6200 (high flow); horizontal plaza decks and green roofs use the 9000, 9800, or 9900; edge drains use HC. The MiraDRAIN Application Guide matches your specific project condition to the right product and its alternates.

What is a drainage composite?

A drainage composite (or dimple board) is a molded dimpled core bonded to a filter fabric. The dimples create channels that carry water to the drain while the fabric keeps soil out. MiraDRAIN is a prefabricated drainage composite that replaces loose aggregate drainage with a lightweight roll.

Where is MiraDRAIN made?

The mats are made in the USA.

How do I install MiraDRAIN?

The filter-fabric side faces the soil and the flat core side sits against the wall or waterproofing membrane. Water passes through the fabric into the core and drains to the perimeter system. See the installation guide on each product page for series-specific detail.

Does everything on this page ship free?
